« I draw my hope  » : drawing contest for children in Madagascar


If children cannot always put their thoughts in a writting statement, their instinct and feeling are often better expressed through drawing, the best way they can represent what they are dreaming of.  « I Draw my Hope » (In Malagasy : Ataoko an-tsary ny faniriako) is a drawing contest open to all children between 6 and 12 years old in Madagascar. The competition is organized  jointly by the Ministry of Education and the UNICEF which also celebrates its 70th anniversary for its work toward young and children.


The contest will have two categories, children between 6 and 8 and 9 to 12 years old. Are eligible to participate all children between these ages and enrolled in around the 25 000 primary schools either public or private throughout the Island. For children, the contest will open their mind, letting them know they have rights … their pictures will convey the innocent’s mind to adults and decision-makers. 


Pictures are to be sent by school directors to the CISCO to which they are affiliated not later than 5th March 2017 which will have to submit to the DREN (Regional Direction of National Education) of their region  … In final 44 pictures (1 per category per region) from the 22 regions of Madagascar will be exposed in the UNICEF and the Ministry of Education’s facebook pages. « Facebook Likes » will constitute 20 % of total score whereas 80 % will come from the jury.


The six winners (3 per category) will receive their award by the end of April 2017, the exact date will be forwarded later . The competition is officially open today 24th January 2017 during a press conference at Colbert Hotel so get your papers and pencils ready …
