Bus accident kills around thirty persons in Ankazobe

 

Madagascar is experiencing series of tragegies the last few days. After the murder of former Civil Service minister Jacky Tsiandopy  at his home, the night of July 31 was a nightmare for the 140 passengers travelling in a double-decker bus to Majunga on highway number 4. The latest news speak of thirty deads and more than eight wounded the majority of whom were young people under twenty years old.  This is the most davastating car accident after the one in January 2017 killing 47 persons including the newlyweds.

 

The group or victims were parents and members of Scout and Christian Youth Association (STK) from FJKM  church in Soavinandriana Itasy.  The accdent occured at 70 km north of Antananarivo, they were on the way to attend national STK gathering  in Majunga.  The accident occured at  11.45 night when the driver failed to change gear to scale a hill. As a result, the car stepped back, felt in a ravine rolling over 8 meters to finally set in fire after a short-circuit. Most of victims were those who sat on the floor.  Until morning, the bus wreck had to be cut with grinding wheels to free charred bodies of victims.

 

Government representatives led by Benjamina Ramanantsoa went in field yesterday and    during his visit at HJRA hospital, the President Hery Rajaonarimampianina promised all expenses related to bodies repatriation, medical care and burials will be born by Malagasy State. According to Herilalatiana Andrianarisaona, Communication officer of the National gendarmery « The driver was not used to driving the car ». The driver who escaped death was interviewed in field for preliminary investigation.

 

Other witnesses from Itasy advanced fault condition of the vehicule they qualify as not a good car to travel hundreds of kilometers anymore. An investigation was carried out to know what caused the accident. Once again, this case calls reliability of vehicles technical visit curculating in Madagascar when not later than this morning, a common transportation has released its brake  in Behoririka - Antananarivo city.
