Earth Overshoot Day : humanity starts living in credit today.

Planet Earth, August 2nd 2017. Today, Humanity’s ecological footprint has exceeded the planet’s biocapacity and it’s not new, the Earth Overshoot Day is always advancing year after year. The  last time humanity lived respectfully the earth global ressources was thirty years ago. If the Earth Overshoot Day was on  December 31 in 1986, this year, it’s on August 2nd 2017, six days earlier than last year. For the next five remaining months of 2017, humanity will be living in credit drawing more and more from natural resources.

The Earth Overshoot Dat is updated yearly by the american NGO, Global Footprint Network, it determines the date where the Earth attains its maximum capacity to feed in a year the whole world population. Calculation is based on on data from the International Energy agency,  Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the  Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).   Overpopulation,  overconsumption and unsustainable practices in the industry world are global issued tighly linked to human ecological footprint. From now then, whatever we do will have an irrevocable impact on the environment.

It’s again an alarm bell to companies and Governments to adopt environmentally friendly policy or practice and responsible behavior for citizens of the world. By 2030, the Earth Overshoot Day is expected to be in June, 28. Anyway, the countdown has started and one question deserves an answer :   How  will the world cope with ecological deficit ?
