The « French Elvis » Johnny Halliday died at 74.


He was an immortal icon of french rock’n’roll and considered as a music national monument in France. Jean Phillipe Smet, known as Johnny Halliday passed away the night of 5 december at his house in Marne La Coquette in Paris. After 60 years of career, he was still supposed to go on stage in 2018 as part of « Rock and Blues » tour. Laeticia Halliday announced the heartbreaking new of his death to the Elysee Palace and national medias: « My man is no longer with us ». The singer died at age of 74 after a long battle with lung cancer.  


’Souvenir, souvenir’’, ‘‘ Retiens la nuit ’’, ‘‘ Que je t’aime’’, ‘‘ J’ai un problème’’ who wouldn’t remember at least one of those hits ? This morning, many of us will have on our lips one of his song.  By 6h30 mn,  important security feature were taken outside Johnny Halliday’s house in Haut-de-Seine (Paris) while many journalists were already in place.

Celine Dion, Patrick Bruel, Lenny kravits, Omany Sy and French President Emmanuel Macron, Marine Le Pen … many artists and political actors  have expressed their grief on Twitter conveying condoleances to families and friends.


More than 3200 concerts, 60 albums, 146 singles, 185 duos with 175 international artists, 22 films and 2167 times appearing at magazine front-pages,   Johnny Halliday’s death marked the end of an unscalable musical career. He left behind him millions of fans, four children a lovely wife.
