For Madagascar, its two representatives Randriamitantsoa Lahatriniaina Safidinantenaina, 21 years old and Miss Terry Athena, 20 years old from Atsimo Andrefana region will fly to New York this Sunday, January 28, 2018. Their participation in the 7th Youth Forum was made possible through the support of the United Nations System, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) the UNDP  and respectively t the Ministry of Youth - Sports and the Ministry of Economy and Planning. The choice of the two Malagasy delegates was based on the criteria defined by ECOSOC, indicating that young people between the ages of 15 and 29, members of  various youth associations at national and / or regional level, participated in consultation workshops / forums on the SDGs, be involved in the implementation of the SDGs related to the environment, energy, hygiene, water, sanitation and partnership.

Accompanied by Ms. Violette Kakyomya, Resident Coordinator of the UN System and Mr. Constant-Serge Bounda, UNFPA Resident Representative, the two delegates were received before their departure by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Jean Anicet Andriamosarisoa and the Minister of Economy and Planning, Herilanto Raveloharison. The two meetings allowed them to receive messages from the two Ministers for their active participation in this international meeting of New York in order to raise the voice and ambitions of Malagasy youth.

The 2018 ECOSOC Youth Forum, will discuss policy frameworks, promote innovative and institutionalized approaches and initiatives to advance the youth development agenda at the national, regional and international levels. It aims also to identify ways and means to help young people overcome the challenges they face, and contribute significantly to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and to provide UN Member States with means to report on their national progress in the " SDGs Youth Dashboard ".

Our two representatives are so ambitious as stated Safidy « After the forum, I think I will popularize and educate young people like me on Sustainable Development Goals for in reality, many young people here are not aware of what we must reach before 2030. If we work together, we will have a sustainable and resilient community. It’s often said that young people are active agents of change, I invite the youth to fully contribute to the creation of a better world ».

For Athena,  " Malagasy youth we will represent must take advantage of this opportunity to provide innovative solutions and actions so that it can be conscious of their responsibility in the development of a resilient community " she said.

At the end of this youth forum, a summary document containing the main results of the Forum's discussions and conclusions will be made available to the High Level Political Forum organized by the Economic and Social Council in July 2018. A general representative from the Forum will also provide a summary of the work and results to the Commission for Social Development. Upon their return to the country, a restitution of these delegates achievement is planned.
