Christian NTSAY : New Prime Minister of Madagascar

The deadline is tomorrow and the nomination of a new Prime Minister was very anticipated today. Seven days exactly as ordonned by the High Constitutionnal Court on 25 May 2018, the name of the new Prime Minister was announced in Madagascar by the President Hery Rajaonarimampianina. Few hours after SOLONANDRASANA Mahafaly Olivier resigns this morning, Christian NTSAY was appointed to be the new Prime Minister. While we don’t know officially if he belongs to any political party, his name was suggested  by the MAPAR party, having the high number of deputies within the Parliament.

Christian NTSAY : a choice led by skills

« I unconditionally accept this decision because I don’t want to block a solution,  I hand in my resignation without constraint or regret », its whith this statement that Olivier Mahafaly Solonandrasana announced his resignation this morning with the President Hery Rajaonarimampianina at Iavoloha after 2 years holding his position.

The President had no choice but  complying with the Court rules. « I have appointed Christian Ntsay  as Prime Minister, an experienced man with the skills to lead a consensus government. » he said . At 57 years old, Mr Ntsay is an international civil servant working as the Director of International Labour Organization (ILO) office in Madagascar, Seychelles and Comoros. Former Minister of Labour between 2002 and 2003, he was  rewarded a Leadership Award for his 26 years of hard work by Guy RYDER, ILO General Director in April 2017.

From a new Government to the next presidential elections.

The current Government still have seven days before being completely changed into a consensus one. By 14 June 2018, the new Prime Minister has to appoint new ministers who should all come from the three main political parties.  To completely end the current political crisis, the huge responsibility of the future government lies on organizing the presidential elections where everyone can participate freely not earlier than 29 August 2018.

Would that choice make everybody happy ? This morning, before the new name was know, Hanitra RAZAFIMANANTSOA from the TIM affirmed that the Prime Minnister should be one of the 73 « Deputies of Change ».
